Proper lacing can make all the
difference in the corset's fit.
Normally when you wear your corset, there will be roughly 1-1/2" to 2" spacing between the eyelets in the lacing. This is the fit that we strive for when custom making a corset for a customer as it allows for adjusting in either direction.
When purchasing a corset off the rack, this spacing may be somewhat more, or a bit less, but roughly 1-1/2" to 2" spacing between the eyelets when laced up tight is a good fit to try to achieve.
How to properly lace up your Corset
When putting your corset on it is important that you start with the laces loosened evenly with a good 4" to 6" between the eyelets. Wrapping the corset around you, latch all but the bottom closure
in the front. Following that, reach behind you and grasp the lace ends of both the upper and lower laces near your body and pull them outward to draw the corset partially closed in the back.
Then starting at the top, one lace crossing at a time, pull the additional slack from the lacing evenly until you reach the center (end of the top laces). Next repeat the
process starting at the bottom tightening upward till you reach the center
(end of the bottom laces)
You may need to repeat the tightening procedure a second time to make
sure you have removed all of the slack, and that the spacing between the
eyelets is even all the way down the back, top to bottom.
Once the lacing is tight, you then hook the bottom closure in the front
of the corset. Again, roughly 1-1/2" to 2" spacing between the eyelets in
the lacing is normal when you lace up your corset. This spacing will
gradually decrease over time depending on how often, and the duration of
time you wear your corset.
If you find that when properly laced, the spacing between the eyelets
exceeds 2-1/2" to 3" when tightened to your limit. You may need to move to
a larger corset.
It is very important to keep in mind however that your
body will quite rapidly adjust and conform to the corsets shaping.
Therefore if you don't have enough spacing between the eyelets in the
lacing at start, you will quickly run out of adjustment spacing as your
body conforms.
